How to design a communication cable?
Generally, wires and cables can be divided into power cords, computer peripheral equipment cables, special-function cables.
Communication cables are widely used in electronic device around us for signal transferring and low-voltage power supply such as computer peripheral equipment, cellphones, surveillance devices, smart home systems, medical devices and so on with it’s character of low-voltage and portability.
If you want a good communication cable for your device, you have to think the following issues through:
Firstly, you must to follow different kinds of standards such as UL, IEC, JIS, GB depended on the function you need and where you will to put in. For example, UL1061, UL2464, UL2725......, or some special usage such as IEEE1284, IEEE1394, DVI, HDMI, and so on.....
Secondly, you must to choose conductor and the wire gauge(AWG is the most popular), Usually, the material of conductor is copper for now so that the AWG is very important which limit the current you need.
Thirdly, another function you have to worry about. For example: braided shield, GND function.
Last, the cover of communication cables, PVC, TPE,etc....., depended on the environment you want to use. PVC is the most commonly used because it’s price is low; TPE is expensive but the flexibility and weather ability are very good......
